Iyengar

Classes are taught in French. If you have any questions before joining, we’re happy to help in English by WhatsApp or email.

Iyengar yoga is a precise postural practice based on alignment and the use of props. It develops body awareness through dedication and patience. Our teachers are certified by R.I.M.Y.I., the institute in Pune, India, in accordance with the rigorous standards of the Iyengar® method. Deeply committed to the practice, they continue to train and refine their teaching.

This practice is at the heart of the studio’s history. The centre was founded by Stéphane Lalo, whose teaching and dedication have left a lasting mark on Iyengar yoga in Marseille. Explore his story and work at www.yogaiyengar.net.

Levels & practice

Level 1: For beginners in the Iyengar® method, including newcomers, those with less than a year’s experience and practitioners from other yoga traditions. Simple asanas establish the foundations: awareness, grounding, stability, ease, coordination and attention to sensations and breath. Introduction to Sarvangasana (shoulder stand).

Level 1–2: For students familiar with Level 1 asanas, including Sarvangasana, who are not yet able to set themselves up independently.

Level 2: For students who know the preparations for Sarvangasana and can set themselves up steadily. Introduction to Sirsasana (headstand) at the wall and preparation for pranayama. Consolidate the foundations, understand the main principles of the asanas and connect actions throughout the body.

Level 2–3: For students familiar with Level 2 asanas, including Sirsasana, Urdhva Dhanurasana and Adho Mukha Vrksasana at the wall, who can set themselves up steadily. Explore variations, deepen Level 2 postures and practise pranayama.

Alignment yoga: Based on body alignment and precision in action. Suitable for beginners, those returning after a long break and practitioners whose previous yoga experience placed less emphasis on precision.

The team

Teachers of the method

Annette

A former gymnast, Annette Zinglé found in Iyengar® yoga a practice that combines precision, concentration and self-awareness, away from competition. A student of Stéphane Lalo since 2007, she has developed a deep daily practice, also informed by shiatsu and Eastern medicine. A cabinetmaker by trade, she helped create the space by making the studio’s woodwork with her partner. She began teacher training in 2021 and qualified in 2025. Today, she shares an attentive, steady and sensitive approach to yoga.

Cédric

Cédric Munier discovered yoga in 2008 and soon felt its physical and mental benefits in his climbing, then his main passion. Meeting Stéphane Lalo and the teaching of B. K. S. Iyengar in 2010 opened up new avenues of exploration. He developed a keen eye for detail, precise instruction and an interest in connecting anatomy within the asanas to the wider practice of yoga. A qualified physiotherapist since 2019 and certified by the French Iyengar Yoga Association in 2021, he offers precise, attentive teaching rooted in this tradition.

Charlotte

Charlotte de Bussy Larbi discovered Iyengar® yoga through her mother, Christine de Bussy, a senior teacher and director of the Clermont-Ferrand centre. She went on to train as a teacher and qualified in 2012. After several years teaching in Algiers, where she helped develop Iyengar® yoga, she moved to Marseille in 2017. She has also studied at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, the home of the method founded by B. K. S. Iyengar. Today, Charlotte shares precise, progressive and accessible teaching, faithful to the method and attentive to each student’s needs.

Portrait of Clara

Clara

Clara Nuzzaci has practised yoga for several years and is currently training with Stéphane Lalo. She offers alignment yoga classes for beginners and for those who want to consolidate or deepen their foundations. An engineer by training, her approach is precise, methodical and accessible. Believing that understanding movement is central to progress, Clara guides each student with care and dedication, respecting their pace, needs and abilities. Her classes build solid foundations, body awareness and confidence in an evolving, lasting practice.

Hervé

A former amateur marathon runner, Hervé discovered yoga as a complement to running, gradually developing an interest in a deeper understanding of movement and the body. A regular at the studio since 2013, mainly studying with Stéphane Lalo, he has spent more than a decade exploring precision and alignment. He began teacher training with Stéphane in 2021 and is currently preparing for Level 1 certification. His alignment yoga classes help students understand postures, progress safely and deepen their practice.

Stéphane Lalo is a key figure in the history of this space. He founded the Centre de Yoga Iyengar® de Marseille in 1996 after an exceptional journey studying with B. K. S. Iyengar and Geeta Iyengar at the Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, India. A certified Junior Advanced 3 teacher, he has taught the method in Marseille for more than 35 years and trains teachers in France and internationally. We are delighted that he continues to contribute to the studio’s story by returning regularly to teach at JOMA.

Portrait of Tracy

Tracy

Dedicated to the Iyengar tradition for nearly 40 years, Tracy Bloor has been a certified teacher for more than 12 years, following training with Stéphane Lalo in Marseille. In 1996, a month of intensive practice with B. K. S. Iyengar and Geeta Iyengar proved a formative experience. She continues to deepen her practice within the Iyengar community, inspired by the precision and richness of the method. For Tracy, each class is a chance to renew a personal dialogue with the body. Beyond physical alignment, she creates a space for listening and sharing, where everyone can cultivate an authentic presence with themselves and others.
